We Go Out as His Servants
Jesus, in his prayer in the seventeenth chapter of the Gospel of John, says, "As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world.” At Third Reformed we see ourselves as a bridge between city and suburbs.
Many members serve as volunteers:
- mentoring children at a local Grand Rapids public school through Kids Hope U.S.A.
- working with or leading a number of local Christian organizations.
- leading worship at the Kent County jail.
A deacons’ ministry helps address needs of people in the church and works with Inner-City Christian Federation to rehabilitate homes and provide services for needy people in the community.
We help stock a community food pantry by providing monthly bags of groceries.
Seasonal events:
In the summer, over 200 children attend Vacation Bible School and over 225 participate in the Whole Life Sports Camp, which includes basketball, soccer, and volleyball.
In spring, during Holy Week, children and their families are invited to an Easter Egg and Holy Treasure Hunt, giving us the opportunity to share with them about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.
Local and global mission:
- We helped a refugee family from Kosovo, Albania, resettle in Grand Rapids.
- We support Words of Hope radio ministry.
- We reach out to the world through prayer and financial support for Reformed Church missionaries in India, Honduras, Nicaragua, the Middle East, Taiwan, and Mexico.
