We Gather for Vibrant Worship

In worship, we seek to live out the apostle Paul's words to the first Christians:
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God.
-- Colossians 3:16
Third Reformed Church uses a blended worship style. We sing the great hymns of the faith along with the best contemporary choruses and spiritual songs. We use an organ as well as less traditional instruments to praise God. While solidly rooted in the Reformed tradition, we are open to learning from other great Christian traditions and incorporating their treasures in our worship. Recognizing that we live in a postmodern age with a spiritual hunger that moves beyond reason, we seek to incorporate newer hymns, songs, and chants that can help us explore the mystery of the Christian faith. The sanctuary choir, children’s choirs, handbell choir, praise team, and liturgical dance group all help us join in praising God.

Sermons are biblically centered and apply God's Word to our contemporary world. Much of the year, we follow the ancient tradition of the church year. The pastor at times develops special Bible messages on books or themes from the Scriptures. Worship is given special emphasis during the high and holy days of our faith. Banners adorn the sanctuary and the hallways, reflecting the joy and spiritual pilgrimage of these seasons. On certain Sunday evenings, the congregation gathers for special prayer and singing to lift up the joys and concerns of people in our community and around the world.
